Active Listening Training Services

We offer a variety of active listening training services to student groups and leaders within the Durham community. All of our training sessions cover the principles and techniques behind active listening, as well as a few specific scenarios.

1 hour workshop

Our one hour active listening workshop is a shortened version of our full active listening training. This training covers a brief introduction to active listening principles and techniques, and a few specific skills, including how to respond if someone is experiencing a panic attack, and how to provide effective signposting.

We offer this training to freshers’ reps across colleges each year, as well as to student groups upon request.

1 Day Active Listening Training

We recommend this training for any Durham students in a Welfare position that involves offering drop-ins to other students.

Full 3 Day Enhanced Active LIstening Training

Our full 3 days of training builds upon what’s covered in our 1 day training, with two additional days that you can sign up for after attending Day 1.

Why do Nightline’s Active Listening Training?

Our training programmes are accredited by the Nightline Association Nightline Quality Standards and we are trusted by Durham University and Students’ Union to provide active listening training to our fellow students. You’ll learn listening skills that can be useful in day-to-day life, as well as in situations where a listening ear could really make a difference.

The atmosphere at the training felt incredibly safe and comfortable and all the trainers were very friendly and happy to answer questions.

The thing that stood out the most to me was how Nightline is such a warm community. Every single person, without fault, came across as genuine and warm.

Nightline has given me so many skills, such as building relationships in stressful situations and giving people space to talk.
